The Affect-O-Matic consists of a translucent plastic head and six switches that connect individually to six LEDs that illuminate the head when pressed. It is an attempt to bring together the often-disparate fields of “art” and “science.” It is interactive: I invite the user to engage with the piece to explore her/their/his own understandings of affect. This project required what seems like endless hours of design, redesign, printing, soldering, gluing, painting, cutting, and other various acts of construction.
